Arts, Culture and Heritage

Bruce Peninsula Hospital Foundation strives to lead the community in passionately supporting local hospitals in their pursuit to provide exceptional, rural care.  BPH Foundation supports the capital priority needs of Grey Bruce Health Services for Lion's Head Hospital, Wiarton Hospital and the regional needs of GBHS.

 

The Hospital Auxiliary has 45 active members who volunteer in the Wiarton Hospital, the Gift Shop, entertain patients with music, provide Pet Therapy and host a variety of community events to assist the Hospital in every way possible in the interests of providing the best patient care.

 

Bruce County Library has facilities in each community, providing resources for every interest as well as meeting space for community groups.

 

The Bruce County Museum in Southampton has exhibits and archives showing the Native heritage and settlement history of the area. Grey Roots Museum near Owen Sound includes a Pioneer Village.  

 

The Artist's Co-op store in Owen Sound is a good place to find paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, weaving by many local artists who also have studios throughout the area.  

 

Musicians gather and perform in community choirs, the Georgian Bay Symphony, and many community events.  The Georgian Bay Folk Society hosts the annual Summerfolk Festival in Owen Sound.

 

The Owen Sound Little Theatre stages a series of live plays and many musical events at their Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound.

 

The Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound has a major collection of the famous artists work and many exhibits.  Local galleries include the Deep Water Gallery in Wiarton, Bruce Peninsula Artist's Co op in Lion's Head, Circle Arts in Tobermory.

Volunteers have opportunities to socialize as they help others.  

 

Chapters of Service clubs and organizations including Rotary, Lions Club, IODE, and Women's Institute meet regularly and host events.

 

Youth 4-H clubs and the Fall Fair have farming community roots.  

 

The local Conservation Authority, Owen Sound Field Naturalists, Bruce Trail Club, and Bruce Ski Club are some groups that work, learn and enjoy nature.
